Privacy policy
How C4 Toolbox handles personal and technical information when you visit the site, create a dealer account, license drivers or contact support.
Last updated: 29 September 2026
1. Who we are
C4 Toolbox operates c4toolbox.com and provides Control4 driver downloads, trials, licensing, updates and dealer support. For personal information used to operate these services, C4 Toolbox is the data controller. You can contact us through our contact page or at hello@c4toolbox.com.
2. Information we collect
- Account information: contact name, email address, telephone number, company name, authentication records and account status.
- Control4 project information: project names, controller identifiers and MAC addresses, installed driver versions, licence and trial status, and Agent check-in information.
- Order information: products, licence type, amount, currency, payment status, Stripe references and invoice details. Complete card details are handled by Stripe and are not stored by C4 Toolbox.
- Support and diagnostic information: messages, driver logs, device and software details, and other information you choose to send when requesting help.
- Website and security information: IP address, approximate country, browser or device information, request logs, and records used to prevent abuse. We also collect email addresses and connection location when someone asks to join a product waitlist.
3. How and why we use information
We use this information to create and administer dealer accounts; provide downloads, trials and licence checks; apply purchases to the correct controller; deliver updates and transactional notices; answer support requests; protect the service; diagnose faults; maintain accounting records; and comply with legal obligations.
Under UK data-protection law, our legal bases are performance of our contract with you, our legitimate interests in operating and securing the service, compliance with legal obligations, and consent where it is specifically requested.
4. Automated licensing and updates
The C4 Toolbox Agent contacts our licensing service to register controllers, validate driver entitlements and check for updates. These checks use controller and driver identifiers rather than information about the occupants of the property. Dealers must not include unnecessary personal information in project names, diagnostic logs or support submissions.
5. Sharing and service providers
We do not sell personal information. We share only what is necessary with providers that support hosting, authentication, storage, email delivery, security and payment processing. Stripe processes checkout and payment information under its own privacy terms. We may also disclose information where required by law, to protect rights or safety, or as part of a business transfer subject to appropriate safeguards.
6. International processing
Some service providers may process information outside the United Kingdom. Where required, we rely on recognised safeguards for international transfers, such as adequacy regulations or approved contractual protections.
7. Retention
We keep account, project and licence records while an account or licence remains active and for a reasonable period afterwards. Order and tax records may be retained for the period required by law. Support, diagnostic, waitlist and security records are kept only as long as needed for their purpose, dispute handling or abuse prevention, then deleted or anonymised.
8. Cookies and local storage
We use essential browser storage to keep users signed in, protect account sessions and remember light or dark appearance preferences. Stripe may set necessary cookies within its hosted checkout. C4 Toolbox does not use this information to create advertising profiles or sell browsing data.
9. Security
We use proportionate technical and organisational safeguards designed to protect information from unauthorised access, alteration, loss or disclosure. No internet service can guarantee absolute security, so dealers should protect their credentials and promptly report suspected misuse.
10. Your rights
Depending on the law that applies, you may ask to access, correct, delete or restrict use of your personal information, object to certain processing, or receive a portable copy. You may also withdraw consent where processing relies on consent. Contact us to make a request. UK users may complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.
11. Changes and contact
We may update this policy as the service or legal requirements change. Material changes will be highlighted on the site or sent to account holders where appropriate. Questions or requests can be sent through our contact page.
