Terms of service

The terms that apply when a dealer uses C4 Toolbox, downloads a driver, starts a trial or purchases a licence.

Last updated: 29 September 2026

These terms form an agreement between C4 Toolbox (“we”, “us” or “our”) and the person or business using c4toolbox.com, the C4 Toolbox Agent, our drivers or related services (“you”). By creating an account, downloading a driver, starting a trial or purchasing a licence, you accept these terms. If you act for a business, you confirm that you have authority to bind it. Our Privacy Policy also applies.

1. Dealer accounts

Accounts are intended for professional Control4 dealers and authorised personnel. You must provide accurate information, keep credentials secure, and tell us promptly about suspected unauthorised access. You are responsible for activity carried out through your account.

We may approve, refuse, restrict or suspend an account where reasonably necessary to prevent fraud or misuse, protect customers or systems, enforce these terms, or comply with law.

2. Driver licences and trials

Each driver is licensed, not sold. Subject to payment and these terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to install and use it within the scope shown at checkout, such as for one identified controller or for all eligible controllers connected to your dealer account.

Trials are temporary evaluation licences. When a trial or licence expires, is revoked or cannot be validated after any stated offline grace period, affected driver functions may be blocked. You must not bypass licensing, alter licence checks, share licence credentials, redistribute packages, reverse engineer drivers except where law expressly permits it, or use the service to develop a competing product.

The free C4 Toolbox Agent may be required for registration, licence synchronisation, updates and related services. You are responsible for keeping it installed, connected and reasonably current.

3. Installation and safe use

Drivers must be selected, installed, configured, tested and maintained by suitably qualified persons. Before installation or updating, you must check compatibility, follow the product documentation, preserve appropriate backups, and test operation in a safe environment. You remain responsible for the design and safety of the Control4 project and for obtaining the property owner’s authority.

Drivers must not be relied upon as the sole control for life-safety, medical, security, fire, emergency, access-control or other safety-critical functions. Maintain suitable physical controls, manufacturer safeguards and recovery procedures.

4. Third-party products and availability

Our drivers interact with Control4 and third-party hardware, software, cloud services and APIs that we do not control. Manufacturer updates, network conditions, configuration changes, service outages or discontinued interfaces may affect compatibility or operation. Unless expressly stated, C4 Toolbox is independent of and not endorsed by those manufacturers.

We may update, replace, suspend or withdraw a driver or service where reasonably necessary. We aim to maintain compatibility and publish release information, but do not promise uninterrupted availability, compatibility with every firmware or configuration, or that every fault can be corrected.

5. Prices, payment and refunds

Prices, licence scope, currency and applicable taxes are shown before purchase. Payment is processed by Stripe. A licence is normally applied after successful payment, but you may need to use “Sync Licences” in the Agent if the controller has not yet received the update automatically.

Except where required by law or expressly agreed by us, completed digital-licence purchases are non-refundable once the licence or download has been supplied. Nothing in these terms limits any mandatory rights that apply to you.

6. Intellectual property and feedback

C4 Toolbox and its licensors retain all rights in the site, drivers, Agent, documentation, branding and updates. No ownership is transferred to you. If you provide suggestions or fault reports, you allow us to use them without restriction or payment, provided we do not identify you publicly without permission.

7. Warranties and equipment risk

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the site, Agent, drivers, documentation and support are provided “as is” and “as available”. We exclude implied warranties of satisfactory quality, fitness for a particular purpose, uninterrupted operation and non-infringement where those warranties may lawfully be excluded.

C4 Toolbox is not responsible for damage to controllers, connected equipment, networks, property or installations arising from the installation, configuration, updating, incompatibility, malfunction or use of a driver, except to the extent that responsibility cannot lawfully be excluded. You are responsible for confirming compatibility, following manufacturer requirements and using appropriate safeguards and backups.

8. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, C4 Toolbox will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, or for loss of profit, revenue, business, contracts, anticipated savings, goodwill, data, use or opportunity. Our total liability arising from a driver or service will not exceed the amount you paid for the affected product during the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.

9. Suspension and termination

You may stop using the service at any time. We may suspend or terminate access for material or repeated breach, non-payment, fraudulent or unlawful use, attempts to defeat licensing or security, risk to other users or systems, or where required by law. Licence, intellectual-property, payment, disclaimer, liability and governing-law provisions continue where their nature requires it.

10. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms to reflect service, legal or security changes. We will update the date above and give reasonable notice of material changes where appropriate. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.

11. Governing law and contact

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction, except where mandatory law provides otherwise. Before starting formal proceedings, each party should give the other a reasonable opportunity to resolve the dispute.

Questions, complaints or legal notices can be sent through our contact page or to hello@c4toolbox.com.
